Freddy’s to Open First Western Canada Location in Okotoks

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, the fast-casual chain known for its fresh-cooked meals and signature hospitality, is set to make its debut in western Canada this September with a new location in Okotoks, Alberta. The restaurant will be situated at Southridge Drive and Westland Street, with construction beginning in June and a community kickoff planned during the Okotoks Parade on June 14, featuring Freddy’s team members and mascots.

A Warm Welcome to Alberta

The Okotoks opening marks Freddy’s second Canadian location and its first in Alberta, signaling the brand’s growing footprint across the country. Franchise owner Ted Tomanik, speaking on behalf of the Alberta team, expressed excitement about the expansion:

“We feel thrilled to be opening the first Freddy’s location in Western Canada and look forward to continuing our growth in the area over the next several years.”

Tomanik emphasized Freddy’s commitment to fresh, made-to-order meals served in a clean and relaxing environment, along with the brand’s signature guest experience known as the “Freddy’s Way.”

Local Ownership, Community Roots

The Alberta franchise group includes Brad and Tammy Gurr, longtime Okotoks residents who are passionate about bringing a family-friendly dining experience to their hometown.

“Brad and I are ecstatic to see friends, family, and new guests visit and try a new restaurant concept,” said Tammy Gurr. “Our atmosphere will give guests a place to connect over delicious food and create their own treasured memories.”

Freddy’s Canadian expansion is led by North 49 Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, under a Master Franchise and Development Agreement with veteran franchisees Jim Werschler and Gregg Most.

A Boost for Okotoks

Okotoks Mayor Tanya Thorn welcomed the news with enthusiasm, highlighting the town’s vibrant spirit and appeal to visitors:

“It’s incredibly inspiring to see our own residents investing in the future of this town… I have no doubt this will attract even more visitors, eager to experience our small-town charm, breathtaking natural beauty, and the distinctive character that sets us apart.”

The new Freddy’s will offer dine-in, takeout, drive-through, and mobile ordering, catering to a wide range of guest preferences.
